Nez Perce [Historical Adventure]

We are a museum/history/aquarium/zoo family. If there is something unique in the area we are more than likely to visit. Ever since Ethan was born, I have made an effort to let him explore different corners of subjects and places most never take the time to do. I am not a good traveler, but I love exploring what is close[r] to home.

The Nez Perce National Historical Park is spread out over 4 states, and The Spalding Visitor Center [where these were taken] is in Spalding, Idaho.

These photos were taken outside of Lewiston, Idaho, in 2018.

You can almost ALWAYS find these two in the gift shops.

The Nez Perce National Historical Park was established in 1965 to tell the story of the Nez Perce (Nimiipuu) people. Spread out over four states, following the route of the 1877 conflict this park offers something for everyone. The history and culture of the Nez Perce surrounds the park. Discover how the Nimiipu adapted and today continue to make the land their own. The Nez Perce National Historical Park’s Visitor Center is located in Spalding. [visitidaho.org]

Since time immemorial, the valleys, prairies, mountains, and plateaus of the inland northwest have been home to the nimíipuu (Nez Perce) people. Extremely resilient, they survived the settling of the United States and adapted to a changed world. Nez Perce National Historical Park consists of 38 places important to the history and culture of the nimíipuu. [nps.gov]

The general store owned and operated by Lewis and Margaret Watson opened for business in 1910 and remained in operation until the mid 1960s. Despite the decline in business as the economy of the Clearwater Valley changed, they served the local Nez Perce community, providing goods and services until the Watsons sold their store in 1965.
